What does the Leviathan in Genesis reveal about psychedelics, higher consciousness, and spiritual narcissism? In his weekly Parshas Bereishis class, Rabbi Aaron L. Raskin explores the Kabbalistic symbolism of the male and female Leviathan, Higher Divine Unity (Yichuda Ila'ah), and Lower Divine Unity (Yichuda Tata'ah). Drawing on Chassidic teachings, Rabbi Raskin offers his interpretation of why ayahuasca and psychedelics are prohibited according to Torah, distinguishing spiritual escapism from the authentic purpose of Kabbalah and Chassidus. The goal of higher consciousness is not to escape the physical world, but to bring Divine awareness into everyday life through emunah, Torah, and mitzvos.
